About this blog
The very first idea of creating this blog comes from my marketing curiosity. With the rapid deregulation of banking industry, I started to take notice of the various high profile marketing campaigns employed by the banks. Most often I was attracted to the creative marketing tactics and catchy headlines used to promote a particular product or service. However at the same time, as a consumer, I grew skeptical on some of the ‘too-good-to-be-true” offers.
From my personal experience , I realized that in general, consumer awareness on financial products from as simple as credit card to more complicated ones such as insurance is generally low. To make things worse, unlike housing or pharmaceutical industry, consumer advertising on financial-related products or services is not well regulated and frequently vital information is omitted or missing. Most of the time advertising of financial product seldom goes beyond the obvious.
But it is somewhat incorrect to put blame squarely on banks or finance companies. Ideally when buying a financial product or service, consumer should thoroughly go through the terms and conditions to make an informed decision. The responsibility rests on the consumer.
This blog is about understanding fine prints of personal finance products. If you have just stepped in to the working world and are starting to manage your personal finance, this blog may help. In addition, this blog will also benefit those who have been working hard for several years and are now starting to make reasonably good money. For this group of people, when the big bucks start coming in, it is also the most vulnerable time to be ‘seduced’ by the material world.
I hope you enjoy reading this blog, as much as I have enjoyed writing it. I would also greatly appreciate your feedback and sharing.
